On April 7th local time, US President Trump instructed a US national security team to re-examine the acquisition of US Steel by Nippon Steel to help determine whether further action is appropriate. On January 3rd of this year, then US President Biden signed an executive order to prevent Japan Railways from acquiring American Steel on national security grounds. Subsequently, the two companies filed a lawsuit, requesting the court to revoke Biden's acquisition blocking order and re-examine the acquisition case. On February 7th, US President Trump held talks with visiting Shigeru Ishiba, after which he stated that Nippon Steel had abandoned its plan to acquire American Steel. On February 9th, the Japanese side confirmed that Nippon Steel will abandon the acquisition and instead invest in American Steel.
